Welcome to the Year End Award Program (YEAP) of the Eastern New York Dressage and Combined Training Association (ENYDCTA). The following is the criteria for nomination, for all awards, effective January 6, 2004. If you have any questions or comments, please contact Erin or Bev.
To compete in the Year-End Awards Program (YEAP):
· Nominees must be members in good standing at the time of nomination and at the time of the competition for which the score being submitted was obtained.
· All horses must be registered with ENYDCTA at the time the scores are earned in order for the scores to qualify. The horse registration form is included on the annual ENYDCTA membership form and on the YEAP nomination form. The cost is $5/horse being registered and is a one-time fee for the lifetime of the horse for same owner. Horse registration is non-transferable with change of ownership. Horse owner does not need to be an ENYDCTA member, but rider nominating for YEAP does.
· Eligible scores are those earned from the day after the previous year’s closing date to the current year’s closing date, as established by the YEAP committee. The only exception to this is rider achievement awards.
· Nominees must indicate which award(s) they are competing for and are required to re-nominate each competitive year. They must also indicate riding level.
Information listed in the Piaffe Flyer in regards to personal nominations is not a confirmation of eligibility for a specified award. It is only an indication of what has been submitted by the nominee for consideration. Further review by the YEAP committee may result in ineligibility. It is the responsibility of the nominee to read and adhere to the guidelines set forth below. This includes completing the nomination form in its entirety, especially in regards to riding level. Any questions regarding eligibility should be submitted to either chair person listed above.
Nominees please note - winning a Champion award is limited to 2-consecutive years at the same level with the same horse. After winning 2-consecutive championships, the horse/rider combination is ineligible to nominate at that level for one year. Horse/rider combinations that have never won a Championship may compete for awards in any category. Riders who nominate must send a copy of each score to the YEAP chair. The copy must show the level, score, show name and judge’s signature in order to be considered valid.

US Equestrian Recognized Competition Awards
Scores for these awards must be from US Equestrian Federation recognized shows. Schooling show scores will not be considered for these awards and have their own separate category.
US Equestrian Recognized Dressage Awards
Training Level through Grand Prix High Point:
Dressage awards are awarded to the highest scoring horse/rider combination.
Nominating criteria:
- You may nominate at 2 levels at the same time with the same horse/rider combination. You may nominate at the same level with more than one horse, each being considered a separate horse/rider nomination. Places up to eighth will be awarded at each level, if criteria are met and nominations warrant. Additionally, levels may be split and/or combined Open/Adult.
Amateur/Junior based on number of nominations at the discretion of the YEAP committee.
Placing determination:
- The year-end point average is calculated by averaging the 4 highest dressage scores submitted. Scores must be from at least 2 different shows with 2 different judges and 2 of the 4 scores submitted must be from the highest test of the level. For tests where there is more than one judge (i.e. Regional Championships) only the average score of all of the judges will be considered. The YEAP average is then weighted against other nominee’s averages competing for the same award. Champion and Reserve are awarded for each level, and if nominations warrant, other places will be awarded within each category.
- Scores must meet the minimum requirement of 55% for all levels, unless different under the award description. Only the top four will be averaged for each level and each category.
- Please remember that dressage scores from Eventing tests can no longer be used towards dressage awards, as these tests are now different.
US Equestrian Recognized Eventing Awards
Beginner Novice through Advanced Low Point:
All eventing awards recognize the lowest penalty point horse/rider combination.
Nominating criteria:
- You may nominate at 2 levels at the same time with the same horse/rider combination. You may nominate at the same level with more than one horse, each being considered a separate horse/rider nomination.
Placing determination:
- The three lowest penalty points will be averaged together to determine the point average for each nominee. Champion and reserve champion will be awarded, with additional placings up to eighth if nominations warrant. Riders may submit as many scores as they wish, but only the lowest three will be averaged.
- Awarded to the lowest scoring rider/horse combination. Currently this award is placed as an overall, but may be divided by level and/or junior/adult based on nominations in any given year at the discretion of the YEAP committee.

Memorial Trophies
ENYDCTA’s YEAP includes several memorial awards that have been established and awarded by individual sponsors. These awards are given in memory of horses that have made a great impact on their human partner’s lives.
The Snowcloud Memorial Trophy was established in 1990 by Dr. Steven & Karen Naile in memory of Karen’s first horse, Snowcloud’s Don Bar. Snowcloud was a registered Appaloosa/Quarter/Thoroughbred cross whose kind and willing heart enabled Karen to “do it all”, from trails and western pleasure to dressage and CT. His show career was varied and illustrious. Truly, one could not have asked for a better horse. Purchased as an unbroken 2-year old colt, Snowcloud lived 14 years with Karen before going on to begin a new career with a young girl wanting to learn dressage.
This trophy is for riders competing in dressage at a US Equestrian recognized show.
It is specifically intended to encourage non-European Warmblood horse owners to compete for this trophy and is open to any who are competing with any native-American bred, cross-bred or Heinz-57 variety horse. Also, ponies of any breed (except those which are of a breed obviously imported into this country, such as Haflingers and Fjords) may compete for this trophy.
This award crosses all levels of competition.
- Nominees should submit their top 4 scores from any US Equestrian recognized or non-recognized schooling show, at which there must be at least an “L” judge. The winner is determined by taking the median of the 4 scores submitted.
- The winner’s name, horse’s name, percentage, horse’s breed and year are engraved on a large, silver trophy that is kept by the winner for one year. There is a “keeper” trophy as well, which varies from year to year and is determined by the establisher of this trophy.
The Sherry Mist Memorial Trophy was established in 1994 by Vicky Wunder-Boppert and her parents, Arnold and Gloria Wunder, in memory of Vicky’s horse Sherry Mist. Sherry Mist was a 15.2 hand registered American Quarter Horse and an extremely willing, athletic, kind and intelligent horse, as evidenced by her impressive wins both locally and regionally. She was a very scopey and powerful jumper, which was something considering her size. She enjoyed her work and approached it with gusto. Vicky writes that “she never had a refusal and cross country was her forte.” Sherry’s life was unfortunately cut short at the age of 17. Vicky and her parents wanted to sponsor a trophy to honor her memory in a way that might further support the discipline in which she excelled.
This award is open to senior riders only (18 years of age or older) competing at the Novice level and:
- The horses must be unrated.
- The horse and owner/rider combination must have completed three (3) USEA recognized Horse Trials at the Novice level.
- All penalty points are averaged together to determine the winner. The award will be a cash award. A Champion and Reserve will be placed only if there are three or more qualifiers. In the event that there are fewer than three qualifiers, only a Champion will be awarded.
The Avita Memorial Trophy was established in 2000 by Joy Black, in memory of her horse Avita. Avita was a talented 4-year old Warmblood whose life was tragically cut short in 1999. This memorial is given to recognize other young, talented horses beginning their dressage careers and will only be awarded for a total of 5 years.
This is a dressage trophy with the qualifications being:
- That the horse be 6 years of age or younger, competing at the Walk/Trot level
- Has received a minimum of four scores of 59% or greater from at least two different shows.
- The highest scoring horse will receive a trophy with the horse’s name and scores engraved on it and will be passed from one year’s recipient to the next. In addition, a “keeper” trophy will be given to each recipient, as determined by the establisher of this trophy.
The Andipyr Memorial Trophy was established in 2005 by a friend of Barbara Sanford, in memory of Barb’s horse Andipyr. Andipyr was the dream horse Barb had always hoped to find. Tragically, Andipyr’s life was cut short by colic. This memorial is given to recognize other talented horses, no matter their age, who are beginning their dressage careers.
This is a dressage trophy with the qualifications being:
- The horse can only have competed at the Walk/Trot level with the nominee, no higher. Rider can be of any level (amateur or professional).
- Have received a minimum of four scores of 59% or greater from at least two different shows.
- The sponsor of the trophy will determine the trophy and/or prize to be given
